Bring dancing shoes, cowboy boots for night at Buckhead

The dance floor at Buckhead Saloon was packed wall-to-wall on a Friday night, but I couldn’t stop watching a hefty man stumble his way onto the dance floor, beer sloshing in hand.

He used random girl’s shoulders for stability as he party-boy danced to the middle of the mob. Eventually, the combination of booze and motion got to be too much and his wobbly body fell hard to the ground.

Aside from the drunk man passing out on the dance floor, there was more to see as a wild bachelorette party ran on stage to lip sync to the live cover band that came on late in the night.

The night started with a DJ mixing old and new rap, but the best part of night was the band. The drunken crowd slurred along to classics like Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker’s “American Girl,” Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl,” and John Mellancamp’s “Jack and Diane.”

At the bar that night I expected tiny girls in skimpy clothes to tend the bar, but was surprised to be served by guys whose biceps were so buff they couldn’t reach across their body.

There was also a wide variety of age groups at the bar. You could find people fresh out of college to singles in their 30s. And there was definitely no shortage of plaid button-up shirts and girls in cowboy boots.

A downside: there were no advertised specials that I could see. It took a couple rounds of ordering different beers for my friends to find one of the cheapest, which was a PBR for $2. The $5 Long Island iced tea I ordered was one of the best I've had on this bar-hopping journey. It wasn’t too strong and tasted more like tart lemonade. My friend’s vodka tonic only set her back $4.

For those with a slim wallet, drinks at Buckhead were very affordable and made for an ... interesting time.

That's pretty funny. What did they think was cheaper than PBR?

How do you find a job that pays you to visit 30 bars in 30 days and write a story the next day? That is incredible.

Are you only reviewing uptown bars? There are a lot of great ones outside of uptown...East Charlotte has a few great one...University...South End...Dilworth. You should expand your area to include places that people frequent that don't do the uptown thing.

If it wasn't for Epicenter, Charlotte would be a cowtown!

A bunch of drunks - - just the kind of people I want to spend my evening with - - NOT!

"The night started with a DJ mixing old and new rap..."

I'd have left right then, even if the drinks were free.
